Bulusan Volcano Erupts, Sending Ash Column Up to 4.5 Kilometers High

Mount Bulusan, located in the central Philippines, erupted this morning, sending an ash column up to 4.5 kilometers high. The government immediately raised the alert level for eruptions and warned residents to stay away from the 4-kilometer danger zone around the volcano.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated that Mount Bulusan, located in the central region, spewed an ash column reaching 4.5 kilometers high between 4:36 AM and 5:00 AM today (April 28). In the previous 24 hours, authorities had recorded 53 volcanic earthquakes.
Currently, PHIVOLCS has raised the alert level for Bulusan Volcano from Level 0 to Level 1 (with 5 being the highest). This indicates low-level volcanic activity with the potential for further eruptions.
In addition to advising residents to avoid the 4-kilometer danger zone around the volcano, authorities have urged people to remain vigilant within the extended 2-kilometer danger zone on the southeastern side of the volcano to avoid hazards from falling volcanic debris, as well as potential landslides and pyroclastic flows.
Bulusan Volcano is one of the 24 active volcanoes in the country. Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur frequently in the region.
